Steffi Jones, FIFA Women’s World Cup President comes to Harlem
To gear up for the World Cup here in New York, the German Consulate General teamed up with area professional soccer clubs to organize a kick-off soccer clinic and tournament at Riverbank State Park in Harlem on March 25 to host German-American soccer star and President of the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup Organizational Committee, Steffi Jones.
Students from local schools filled the gymnasium at Riverbank State Park for the open youth soccer clinic, led by Sky Blue FC and FC Harlem players and staff, and cheered on teams from Sky Blue Youth Clubs of Somerset, New Jersey, German School New York, FC Harlem Lions, and the High School for Mathematics, Science and Engineering, both from Harlem, in the tournament. The Mother Cabrini High School marching band from New York provided musical entertainment for the crowd of students, parents and visitors.
